On the Edge

On the Edge (from the album Catch the Squirrel)

Where the ground shakes, smoke rising up to meet you
Vampire stakes, on your grill they eat you
Clock tower clicking, church bells ringing
Heaven can wait, but hell wants to sing
Stretch yourself thin, step right up
What do you win, what’s in your cup?

On the edge of greatness being much but becoming more
Sails are tight and the wind is right, we’re ready to leave for the shore

Where the sun shines, mist rising up from the sea
Jellyfish sting, horseshoe crabs clamoring
Tide pools tickling, every wave is licking
Limbo can wait – purgatory wants to sing
Stretch yourself loose, take off your shoes
What do you see, what are the clues?

On the edge of the boardwalk, more in touch than I was before
Stars at night and the wind is right
Now I’ve got sand in my shorts

On the edge of greatness being much but becoming more
Sails are tight and the wind is right, we’re ready to leave for the shore
